Today we return to our “So You Want My Job” series, in which we interview men who are employed in desirable man jobs and ask them about the reality of their work and for advice on how men can finally become what they always wanted to be when they grew up. For this installment, we [...]

The Best and Worst Magazines for Men

One of the reasons I started the Art of Manliness website was because of the dearth of quality men’s magazines out there. None of them really took the idea of manliness and what it meant to be a man seriously, and they were filled with the same, tired articles on how to bed the ladies [...]

Bartitsu: The Martial Art of Gentlemen

Image from The Journal of Manly Arts Before Randy Couture and the Ultimate Fighting Championship, there was Edward William Barton-Wright and bartitsu. Bartitsu was probably the first instance of what we know today as mixed martial arts. Mr. Barton combined elements of boxing, jujitsu, cane fighting, and french kick boxing in order to create a self [...]

Well heres a BIG welcome to indy dads and i know that without a doubt you will love it here. I saw that you said that you were having twins, do you know what the gender of the babes are yet. I will tell you that from my own personal experience that twins are a true blessing. Just be verry patient amd sympothetic to your wife when she delivers, because a lot is going to change for the both of you. this is where the comon phrase it takes a village to rase a family comes into play. my twins are 5 now and they live with there mom..... and its unfortionate that the x and i could not make it work, but i am not going to bore you with all the boring details ,so once again welcome to indy dads.

Session at Castleton 4D Ultrasound

Well, tonight was the big night that we got to go see the twins in 4D at the ultrasound place on the north side of town. It was a really neat experience. The place nice. The room that we got to do the session in had big leather coutches to sit on while the ultrasound was being shown on a big projection screen. We took a few guests since you can have up to five, and the little ones had toys already there to play with and all the outlets that I saw were baby proof. The session lasted about an ho… Continue

First Step in the Total Money Makeover

Well, the family got it together. We've started down the path of the Total Money Makeover by getting our $1000 emergency fund together. The way that we did it is by selling our car to Carmax. The reason being is that Carmax would take our car and give us moeny for it without us having to buy a car from them. Also, no listing in the paper and dealing with haggling with people. So now, its on to the next step. We are trying to cut corners as much as possible, b… Continue

Shave and a haircut...

For a while now I've been trying to find a new barber to take on the mighty role of taming my mane every now and again. Since my old barber passed a few years ago, I've been roaming the town from chair to chair looking for a great place to get my hair cut and it appears I've found it. This week I was looking for barber coupons on Coupons4Indy and found a place called Red's Classic Barber Shop Company.… Continue

Open Enrollment time!

So once again for me it is time for the open enrollment period at work. This year not being as big for a few reasons and being HUGE for a few reasons. Not so much of an issue since I'm going to have a change of life event (birth of twins) not long into the new year, so I get to pick again when that happens. But huge since my medial insurance is changing so much. Last week St. Francis came out and said they were dropping Anthem as an insure as of Nov 3. This poses a problem for us since we use a… Continue

Attack of the Elmo's

So, anymore, I believe at this point that the Elmo dolls in my house must have found a way to reproduce with themselves because they are growing to enormous proportions. Don't get me wrong, if it is one thing that I'm glad my daughter is in to it is Elmo. Mainly because whenever we buy and Elmo toy a portion of that purchase goes back to the not for profit that puts on the show. But still, I just hope that what ever is next on the "gotta have it" list is maybe a bit less energetic. And yes, he… Continue
