I'm a web developer by day, and general village geek any other time. I actually started my own side business that did fairly well, but I eventually learned that I just don't have time for 2 jobs and a family, so the side job is very part-part-time now.

Wow, they actually asked that? LOL

I avoid Best Buy at all costs. I've had too many bad experiences there, none of which were product related.

I'm a systems engineer by day for a construction company. its a great job and alot of opportunities to learn.

My guess is anyone who could work at the Geek Squad wouldn't shop at Best Buy. The average Best Buy customer doesn't know what NewEgg is.

NewEgg rocks

Yeah, I am a geek. I work IT during the day and try to do some side work too. The economy is hitting so hard right now that I have to do what I can to pick up some extra $$$ to pay for the extras for my daughter. I work mainly in the network administration, IT management, and project management. I have been known to do some website stuff too, but wouldn't consider myself a web programmer.

William - I've started in 1969 as computer science student at a good university in Michigan so I've played with all kinds of techie stuff in the last 38+ years. I even still dream a little in hex. I got my Masters in Information and Communication Sciences from Ball State and the last 2 years I've moved to teaching online for different universities so that I can choose when I work. Before that I was pretty much managing IT departments for about 15 years and before that I was hands-on engineer with various systems since the '70s. Today I'm more of a student of technology and, thanks to Google Reader, I read about 50 articles a day on emerging technologies. I am more interested in the impact to our society and culture that the Internet is causing and that is why I'm a new member of IndyDads to check it out. I'm currently playing with a number of social networks to see which ones truly build community and not just waste time. So I don't know if that qualifies for "geekdom" but I love all things techie. - Art

I dream in code too (vb.net mostly). I forgot hex and have no need for binary. :-)

LOL William. Hey I know of a good vb.net teacher if you need one.

Yea, when I got home, I was showing my wife he site on her iPhone and it looked great! I can't wait to get the internet at my new house!

I had applied for the Geek Squad, but never heard from them and when I called, they said don't call, we will call you. I must have been overqualified, have you ever listened to a Geek Squad member? If you have ever considered hiring the Geek Squad, don't. Here are more than enough reasons not to: [ http://consumerist.com/tag/geek-squad/ ]

Finally, yes, everybody made it out of the flood safe and sound. We lost almost all of our possessions, but we were able to save pictures, main computers, paintings, and our animals (a cat and a dog). We have had tremendous support from our church and friends.
