I'm a web developer by day, and general village geek any other time. I actually started my own side business that did fairly well, but I eventually learned that I just don't have time for 2 jobs and a family, so the side job is very part-part-time now.

I'm a geek too, but a cool geek I'd like to think. After having two girls my inner geek is struggling to find time to reveal itself.

I love computer programming! What type of geeky stuff do you do?

Reply to This

Yeah I don't program much, after a C++ class in college that was no longer a desire, lol.

I dabble in website design, tearing apart machines, building, looking into NAS storage and building a networked multimedia center of sorts now. Wanna bring up a Server 2008 box and setup a domain at home, maybe Exchange, lol.

Maybe we should start a group on here for Technophiles?

Sounds good to me

I do break/fix stuff too. I had a domain setup years ago after I got my MCSE. I didn't have time to tinker with it too much.

Are you going to use MS Virtual Server, or build a physical box?

Geek, no. Nerd, yes. At least based on my understanding of the definitions.

There's a difference? LOL

Any fellow Nerd Herders around? For those who don't know, this is from "Chuck". It is an NBC show about a guy who works for the Nerd Herd (think Geek Squad) at the Buy More (Best Buy) but has a massive government database downloaded into his brain and now has 2 government agents accompany him for his protection. The catch is that one is very attractive and becomes a love interest. She plays his girlfriend as a cover.

Anyway ... what I am saying is that, Yes. I am a geek. I am a Desktop Support Level III Tech by day and a husband and father by night. We recently lost our apartment to the flooding in Martinsville and have moved to Bloomington, so I have had little to no time for my other geeky pursuits. I love computers, video games, movies, trivia, and most of all my family.

I am glad that this site has become more active, although something seems to be missing. Maybe the filters at work are blocking something, but all I see is barley formatted pain text and blue hyperlinks. Where is the formatting?

Yes, your filters at work are blocking the content. Ning is considered a social networking site, which is regularly blocked by Corporate America.

I Remote Desktop to another PC outside of work. :-)

I think knowing there's a difference is also evidence to the fact, that I'm a nerd. I'm not proud of it, but a leopard can't change it's spots. ;-)

Sorry to hear about your house. Sounds like the family is safe though. :-D

I actually tried to get a job at the Geek Squad and based on the questions they asked ("What does RAM stand for?") I thought I was in easily. But I didn't get a call back, so apparently I'm not a big enough Geek.
