I attended a monthly meeting last night for the project management organization I am affiliated with and left the meeting pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the speaker's presentation. I was initially a little disappointed to hear that this month's speaker was going to be Rupert Boneham (the fellow Hoosier and winner of 'Survivor - All Stars'), but it had been a few months since I last attended one of these meetings and decided to go even though I really didn't see the correlation betwee…

Well being a dad means I get the chance to teach young people or children to love having fun and new foods. I am a Kitchen manager at a restuarant and my wife runs a daycare and every Tuesday I spend time with the kids teaching them cooking and kitchen safety. The kids love it and try new foods every week and take pride in what they cook like my mom used to do with us. I'm not perfect in any way, but the kids enjoy what I teach them enought not to get timeouts for that day so they could cook. I…

Well, tonight was the big night that we got to go see the twins in 4D at the ultrasound place on the north side of town. It was a really neat experience.
The place nice. The room that we got to do the session in had big leather coutches to sit on while the ultrasound was being shown on a big projection screen. We took a few guests since you can have up to five, and the little ones had toys already there to play with and all the outlets that I saw were baby proof.
The session lasted about an ho…

Well, the family got it together. We've started down the path of the Total Money Makeover by getting our $1000 emergency fund together. The way that we did it is by selling our car to
Carmax. The reason being is that Carmax would take our car and give us moeny for it without us having to buy a car from them. Also, no listing in the paper and dealing with haggling with people.
So now, its on to the next step. We are trying to cut corners as much as possible, b…

Ever since I was a kid I have always wanted a dog. I had this belief that pets teach kids great responsibility. But my parents and more to benefit my sister would only get a cat. I apologize to all the cat lovers out there but I hate cats. I am one of those people who need the returned love that a dog will give you.
When I finally got out of college I was going to get a dog but ended up having kids instead. Then my life turned into a constant busy cycle of being a single father, working full ti…

My parents will be proud. For the first time in my life, I finally voted. While I only cast 3 votes (President-Obama, Governor-Daniels and House Rep-Burton), I voted. Ultimately I think it was because I actually took some time to do some research. Just as I had always suspected, most political ads are 51% truth, at best, which in and of itself is sad, but to an extent I can understand why. It puts a huge burden on the American citizens to do the research, which I'm afraid that many do not.

At 6:58 pm today, I proudly cast my vote for a black man to be President of the United States of America, an opportunity that - even just a two years ago - I never thought I would have.
I have obviously been very much looking forward to this vote, if just for the historic aspect (though there was definitely more to my excitement than that). However, I was surprised by how emotional I was about it after I did it. To be perfectly honest, when I walked out of our early voting location, I was near…

For a while now I've been trying to find a new barber to take on the mighty role of taming my mane every now and again. Since my old barber passed a few years ago, I've been roaming the town from chair to chair looking for a great place to get my hair cut and it appears I've found it.
This week I was looking for barber coupons on
Coupons4Indy and found a place called
Red's Classic Barber Shop Company.…

I wanted to say that I had a pretty amazing time coaching the
Mt. Comfort Optimist Galaxy team this year. We went 5 - 1 this season and came in second placing losing to a great team on Monday. My team was a amazing bunch of kids and being able to coach such talented kids was a blessing. Below is a picture on Monday after they were given their participation trophies. I wasn't able to get any pictures of them getting their 2nd place trophies.
sorry for t…

So once again for me it is time for the open enrollment period at work. This year not being as big for a few reasons and being HUGE for a few reasons. Not so much of an issue since I'm going to have a change of life event (birth of twins) not long into the new year, so I get to pick again when that happens. But huge since my medial insurance is changing so much.
Last week St. Francis came out and said they were dropping Anthem as an insure as of Nov 3. This poses a problem for us since we use a…

So, anymore, I believe at this point that the Elmo dolls in my house must have found a way to reproduce with themselves because they are growing to enormous proportions.
Don't get me wrong, if it is one thing that I'm glad my daughter is in to it is Elmo. Mainly because whenever we buy and Elmo toy a portion of that purchase goes back to the not for profit that puts on the show. But still, I just hope that what ever is next on the "gotta have it" list is maybe a bit less energetic.
And yes, he…

So, it appears that I'm going to be getting a second job. In order for my wife to continue to stay home with the children, we are going to need a bit more inflow to keep the boats afloat! We both came to the decision since if she went to work, that would mean day-care and then we would have to be making money to cover those expenses and more, so we're moving ahead.
First step is that I've been signing up for as much overtime at work as I can reasonably handle. But when OT is not an option, I've…

My wife and I went to the
Indy Baby Expo over the weekend and found some great information and some resources that we didn't know existed in Indy even after the birth of our first (including this site for me).
Anyway, we signed up for the raffle from
Castleton Ultrasound and won! Ashley is calling tomorrow to get the appointment set up. I'm looking forward to getting to see both of the kids up close and…

Let me start this by saying I love animals and if it were not for Peta's horrible way of doing business, I would support them to the max. I think animals add to the unique family atmosphere and owning a pet teaches kids to be responsible.
With that said, I have not been a fan of having a pet for children or myself. Even though they will teach my kids an important responsibility lesson, I just did not think I had time to own a pet. They require the same if not more attention than a child so beca…

I have been a single dad for 5 years and everyday is still a challenge and learning experience. Lately I have been dealing with the thought that maybe my daughter could be going through puberty. After doing a ton of research on the internet, talking with my sister (a very awkward conversation), and today went to the doctor about my daughters stomach pains I was wrong. She is still a bit young to be going through it but it put the idea that it will be happening soon in my head. I admit I freaked…

The site has been around for a couple months now and even though we are still meeting our goals I still think we can do better. So I am asking you current members of Indydads.com.
What do you think this site is missing? What can we do to make this site apart of your daily visits on the internet? I know everyone has a list of sites they visit everyday. What can we add to make that site on your top 5 list?
Please post your comments and we will review each and every one of them.
Thanks

Hey Dads,
Just wanted to let everyone know of some cool changes to ID over the past few weeks.
- Chat Installed - A chat function has been installed to the site. You can find it by looking in the header links at the top of the site. When you click on the site, it will open a new window. This allows you to continue to browse the IndyDads and still have chat up and running.
- Condensed Header Links - We have tried to condense the header links at the top by combining them. For examp

It's September now. It's the month that has represented the ultimate change in my life this year. My baby is due on the 25th. The anticipation is killing me. And, in the last few weeks, the fear has set in. I know all dads are afraid when their first child is coming. It's natural. But I'm not afraid because I don't know what to excpect or what to do. I'm afraid because I know myself. I have no tenacity. I get a goal in my head and pursue it for a week or two, but as soon as it gets hard, I quit.…

Hey All,
I wanted to post my reaction to the Fisher's Co-op Water balloon fight that was this past Saturday at the Roy G Holland Park in Fishers.
The event had a great turnout. I do not think they beat the record but there were a ton of people there. IndyDads had a table setup in the main walkway. There were some other great companies like Grant Communications, Moes Grill, and Spicy Pickle. The kids and me decked out in IndyDads shirts (pictures coming soon) passed out a lot of flyers and stic…

Other than starting the site, I love IndyDads because of the people I have meet and the impact it is making on my life. I have meet allot of great people since the site has started and trust me I enjoy meeting anyone who will listen to me ramble on about being a dad and improving fatherhood. There have been some who have made a big impact on my life through their charity work and their willingness to help anyone anytime. I could sit here and name the many individuals but that would take to long.…
