This is a huge passion of mine. I've been a lifelong fatty, then a year ago I saw some disturbing research that says a dads BMI, weight and activity level directly impacts and correlates with their childrens'. I changed my life then. I've dropped 100 lbs. since then (and still have a lot more to go), and want to do whatever I can to help other dads in the same situation!
Chris let me say that you have done great with this and look amazing. I have the same problems and even though in high school and college I was thin and I think marriage was what started me on the fat trail. I have diabetes and read the same things as you. I want to get thin and back to a healthy weight for my kids. I do not want to die early and miss out on their lives. Its my biggest fear in life. But doing is different than talking about it. I do small things but no enough to get where I want to be.
You know what we're doing with the Fit Father Challenge at Dads Inc., but I would still like to do more outside of that. I would be more than happy to help lead a group of guys who want to get together, even outside of the gym, for some exercise and education. Outside of being a good dad, husband & son, being a fit dad, husband & son is the biggest goal I have.
I've struggled with my weight since I got a desk job after college about 12 years ago. I'm 6'4" and 290 lbs. I need to lose about 60 lbs to be at my ideal weight.
I think this is an awesome group. I live up here in Noblesville and would love to get together with some dads and go on walks or light jogs. My thing isnt so much the time factor as the self motivation. If I had a group of dads to help me keep committed then that would be great. Im not overweight by anymeans if anything I am not at a good weight for my size being almost 6' im right around 175-180 but its mostly in my gut. I want to get into shape and cardio is a good place to start atleast for me. Before I met my wife and we had a baby I was around 150 lol so ive gained 25-30lbs but not in the best way.
I am struggling as well to loose the pounds, I have recently been diagnosised with Diabetes and truthfully it scares me, I am 39 and it seems like lately more and more men are dieing your and your due to health issues don't want it to be me
You can be scared or you can do something about it, man. I've been stress-eating for a month, so I'm not a good one to give advice, but you just have to jump in and be ready to do it.
It is good to hear that other men are willing to get together to workout or even just walk with each other. I live on the SE side of town and I am trying to get back to my Marine Corps weight. I use a web site www.thedailyplate.com where you can count your calories to keep track of what you are eating each day. I lost 12 Lb in Jan. doing this. I would love to meet up with people to work or, play a pick up game or anything that I can be active with. I have about 15 more lbs to go.

Chris, great work keep it up! The best thing to loose weight even if you don't like to change what you eat is a cardio work out. I have always been about 50+ over weight myself. I got shocking results a couple years ago when my Dr. sent me for blood test for cholesterol check because of heart issues in my family. My bad level was high and my good level was low. She put me on the south beach diet. Which is not really a diet. It is stated that once you start and stick with it you automatically stick with it. I did for quiet a while. I was doing that and cardio and got back down to 170, which was definately better. I then started to go to all different restaurants with co-workers which definately did not help, but I got close to the weight I started at. I have since started doing cardio and stopped eating high fat foods. I have lost about 10#'s, it would be more but some days I can't get to my work out due to work. I try to do my cardio workout at least 3 times a week. Light jogging is the best, unless you want to walk lots of miles. :). It is ok to indulge ever now and then but go back to eating healthy and have some sort of cardio workout. It will burn more calories/fat then most types of workout. The worse foods for you are potatos, carrots, and corn. Your body turn it into sugar and stores it. Other then that just lean cuts of meat. No guys that doesn't mean you have to give up steak! lol You have to get your body used to burning your extra fatting calories in order to loose weight. Keep doing your cardio even in the hard times of when you don't want to. It pays off in the long run.
